The voice of the NBA will reportedly be the voice of Olympic basketball this year. In other news, Mary Carillo and Jimmy Roberts will again be part of NBC’s Olympic coverage, and the U.S. Attorney General will be a guest on an NBCSN soccer program.
Albert Reportedly Working Olympic Hoops For NBC
- Turner Sports play-by-play voice Marv Albert will call Olympic men’s basketball on the NBC family of networks this summer, the New York Daily News reported Sunday. It will be his first basketball assignment for NBC since the network lost NBA rights in 2002, and his first time calling Olympic basketball since 1996. The move comes as Albert has been reducing his workload, dropping the NCAA Tournament in his recent contract extension with Turner. (NYDN via Awful Announcing)
Carillo, Roberts, Returning to NBC Olympic Coverage
- NBC Sports announced last week that Mary Carillo and Jimmy Roberts will again contribute to its coverage of the Olympic Games. Both will serve as correspondents. This will be Carillo’s second straight Olympics as solely a correspondent, after she hosted studio coverage in five straight from 2004 to 2012. (NBC Sports Group Press Box)
Attorney General to Appear on NBCSN Show
- United States Attorney General Loretta Lynch will be a guest on Monday’s edition of the NBCSN soccer program Men in Blazers. Lynch’s Justice Department indicted several top FIFA officials last year. She is the latest Obama administration official to appear on a sports program, after Vice President Joe Biden made a guest appearance on Turner Sports’ Final Four studio coverage and President Obama himself sat for an interview during ESPN’s coverage of the Rays/Cuba baseball exhibition.
