With the NCAA Tournament approaching, CBS did not do very well with college basketball over the weekend.
At least four of the six NCAA basketball games on CBS last weekend had declines in overnight ratings, with comparisons unavailable for the other two games.
The biggest decline came for Sunday’s Michigan/Michigan St. game, which drew a 1.0 overnight rating — down a whopping 71% from Duke/North Carolina in the same timeslot last year (3.4), and down 17% from Purdue/Michigan two years ago (1.2).
Meanwhile, overnight ratings dropped for all three games of Saturday’s tripleheader. West Virginia/Villanova drew a 1.2 (down 29%), Kansas/Missouri also drew a 1.2 (also down 29%), and UCLA/Arizona St. drew a mere 0.8 (down 47%).
The high-profile Kentucky Wildcats gave CBS its highest college basketball overnight of the weekend, as Sunday’s Florida/Kentucky game drew a 1.5 overnight. Overnight ratings for last year’s comparable game were not available.
Elsewhere, the Missouri Valley Conference Championship Game drew a 0.9 overnight. Overnight ratings were not available for last year’s comparable game.
