Yet again, overnight ratings dropped for the Summer Olympics.
Primetime coverage of the Rio Summer Olympics earned a 16.6 overnight rating on NBC Tuesday night, down 15% from London in 2012 (19.6). Overnights for Beijing in 2008 were not available. Compared to the same night of the most recent Olympics, the 2014 Sochi Winter Games, overnights increased 38% from a 12.0.
Figures do not include concurrent primetime coverage on NBCSN, which pulled a 0.9 overnight.
As is usually the case during the Summer Olympics, the second week has produced lower ratings than the first. Four of the past five nights have fallen below a 17.0 overnight, compared to just two of the previous six.
Salt Lake City led all markets with a 20.5 rating, marking the 10th time in 12 nights that it has topped the charts. Denver ranked second with a 19.8, followed by Austin, TX (19.5), Columbus, OH (18.7) and Richmond, VA (18.2). Minneapolis-St. Paul was just outside of the top five with an 18.1.
