A Keystone state showdown could not keep ratings afloat for the NFL on CBS.
The Week 3 NFL national window, featuring Steelers/Eagles in 52% of markets, earned a 13.9 overnight rating on CBS Sunday afternoon — down 1% from coverage featuring Bears/Seahawks last year (14.1) and down 18% from coverage featuring a Broncos/Seahawks Super Bowl rematch in 2014 (16.9).
The 13.9 is the lowest for the Week 3 national window since coverage featuring Steelers/Bengals in 2009 (12.6), marking the second straight week that the late doubleheader game has hit a multi-year low. Last week’s window, which also aired on CBS, was the lowest rated in Week 2 of the season since 2007.
Despite the decline, the national window was still the weekend’s highest rated telecast in the metered markets — finishing a full point ahead of NBC’s Sunday Night Football (12.9).
Earlier in the day, regional action drew a 9.0 overnight — down 18% from last year (11.0) and down 19% from 2014 (11.1).
