Through the first fourteen matches, ratings have doubled for the 2010 FIFA World Cup on the ESPN family of networks.
ESPN and ABC have averaged a 2.1 U.S. rating and 3.3 million viewers for coverage of the World Cup through Tuesday, up 50% in ratings and 64% in viewership from the comparable point in 2006 (1.4, 2.0 mil).
Matches on Monday and Tuesday averaged 2.1 million viewers on ESPN.
Saturday’s USA/England match on ABC gave a major boost to the numbers, averaging 13.0 million viewers. Through the comparable point of the 2006 World Cup, the lone USA match drew a tiny-by-comparison 3.8 million viewers on ESPN.
