Many more viewers watched SportsCenter after Game 7 of the World Series than Fox Sports 1. In other news, the NHL suffered opposite Game 7, and the NHRA posted a slight dip at Las Vegas last weekend.
SportsCenter Tops FS1 After World Series Game 7
- Airing shortly after Game 7 of the World Series, the 1 AM edition of SportsCenter scored 1.1 million viewers on ESPN early Thursday morning — topping postgame coverage on Fox Sports 1 by 189% (375K). Figures on the FOX broadcast network were not available, but it goes without saying that its postgame coverage topped both cable outlets. Keep in mind ESPN had a much stronger lead-in from its Thunder/Clippers NBA game (810K) than FS1 did for its preceding episode of UFC Unleashed (58K). SportsCenter also topped the FS1 postgame show after Games 3 and 5 of the series.
World Series Game 7 Sinks NHL Wednesday
- NBCSN scored 267,000 for Flyers/Red Wings NHL action opposite Game 7 of the World Series on Wednesday, down 42% from Penguins/Capitals last year (462K) but down only 1% from Red Wings/Capitals in 2014, which also faced a World Series Game 7 (271K). It trailed the previous week’s Bruins/Rangers game, which faced Game 2 of the Fall Classic, by 34% (407K). The previous night, Lightning/Islanders had 111,000 (-29%) and Sharks/Coyotes just 92,000 (no game last year).
NHRA Vegas Viewership Down Just Slightly
- Live NHRA racing from Las Vegas had 366,000 viewers on Fox Sports 1 last Sunday, down half a percentage point from last year (368K) and down 20% from 2014 (455K), both of were tape delayed on ESPN2. It was the most-watched NHRA telecast since the NFL season started, but trailed each of the 18 races that took place beforehand.
