The NFL singleheader window hit a season-high in overnights. In other news, FOX had a big decline for a college football blowout on Saturday, and the Breeders Cup hit a three-year low in the overnights.
Singleheader Hits Season-High Despite Decline
- The Week 9 NFL singleheader window, featuring Cowboys/Browns in 31% of markets for Eagles/Giants in 25%, had a 12.4 overnight rating on FOX Sunday afternoon — down 9% from coverage featuring Packers/Panthers last year (13.6) and down 13% from coverage featuring Cardinals/Cowboys in 2014 (14.3). Despite the decline, it was the highest rated singleheader of the season in the metered markets and just the third to top Sunday Night Football (11.7).
TCU’s Blowout of Baylor Down Big on FOX
- Saturday’s TCU/Baylor college football game drew a 0.9 overnight rating on FOX, down 47% from TCU/Oklahoma State last year (1.7). There was no comparable window in 2014. The Horned Frogs’ 40-point rout was doubled head-to-head by regional coverage on ABC (1.8) and tripled by Florida/Arkansas in on CBS (2.7).
Breeders Cup Hits Three-Year Low in Overnights
- The Breeders Cup Classic scored a 1.6 overnight rating on NBC Saturday night, down 38% from afternoon coverage last year, when Triple Crown winner American Pharoah boosted the event to a five-year high (2.6). Compared to primetime coverage in 2014, overnights fell 11% from a 1.8. The 1.6 is the lowest for the event since 2013 (1.4).
