For the first time since Week 4, Monday Night Football cracked an 8.0 in the overnights, but the numbers were still nothing to brag about.
The Texans/Raiders NFL International Series game from Mexico City had an 8.1 overnight rating on ESPN’s Monday Night Football, down 19% from Bills/Patriots last year (10.0) and down 5% from Steelers/Titans in 2014 (8.5). According to Sports Business Daily, it was the lowest rated Week 11 edition of MNF since 2007.
The Raiders’ win, which peaked at a 9.5 from 9:45-10 PM ET, was the 11th of 12 Monday night games this season to hit a multi-year low in the overnights and the eighth to decline double-digits from last year.
With that said, the 8.1 overnight was the highest for MNF in seven weeks — since Giants/Vikings in Week 4 (9.1) — and the fourth-highest of the season. That is more an indication of how poorly this year’s Monday night slate has done than of anything else. Last year, an 8.1 overnight ranked 14th out of the 16 MNF telecasts.
ESPN’s coverage had a 14.6 rating in Houston and a 5.1 in the Bay Area. The game was simulcast on local affiliates in both markets, earning a 10.3 on Houston CW affiliate KIAH and a 10.8 on Bay Area ABC affiliate KGO.
