Overnight ratings for the MLB All-Star Game dropped to record low levels.
The 2010 MLB All-Star Game drew a 9.3 overnight rating on FOX Tuesday night, down 11% from last year’s game (10.4), down 16% from the first nine innings in 2008 (11.0) and down 7% from 2007 (10.0).
The 9.3 overnight is the lowest ever for the MLB All-Star Game. Previous lows came in 2005 (9.8), 2004 (10.4) and 2000 (10.9).
This is only the second time in the past 12 years that the All-Star Game has failed to draw a double-digit overnight rating, along with the aforementioned 2005 game.
Compared to other sports, the All-Star Game drew a lower overnight than every game of the 2010 NBA Finals (low of 10.4, high of 18.2), every game of the 2010 Final Four (low of 9.4, high of 16.0), the Spain/Netherlands World Cup Final on ABC (9.9), the Ghana/USA World Cup Round of 16 match on ABC (9.9) and the final round of The Masters (12.0) — among others.
The game did draw a higher overnight than the Orange (7.1), Fiesta (8.6) and Sugar Bowls (9.2).
Tuesday’s game drew significantly higher numbers than All-Star Games in other sports, topping the NFL Pro Bowl on ESPN (7.9) by 18% and the NBA All-Star Game on TNT (4.6) by 102%.
Despite the lower numbers, FOX won the night in primetime on broadcast in total viewers and the key adults 18-49 demographic.
