ESPN has picked up New York Times writer Sam Borden. In other news, ESPN has also hired former baseball player Mark Teixeira and is reportedly on the verge of hiring Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.
Borden Leaving NYT For ESPN
- ESPN has hired New York Times correspondent Sam Borden as a writer and contributor on its various platforms, focusing primarily on international sports and soccer in particular. Borden had been with the Times since 2011, most recently serving as the network’s first overseas-based sports correspondent. In his new role, he will contribute to ESPN’s journalism brands such as Outside the Lines and E:60 as well as both ESPNFC.com and the ESPNFC television show. (ESPN Media Zone 2.7)
ESPN Hires Former Yankees 1B
- ESPN also announced Tuesday that it has hired former New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeria as a Major League Baseball studio analyst. As one would expect, Teixeria will appear ESPN’s MLB studio shows and SportsCenter. Teixeira joins former Cubs C David Ross on the list of ESPN offseason acquisitions. (ESPN Media Zone 2.7)
ESPN Reportedly Near Deal With Yahoo! Writer
- ESPN is close to acquiring Yahoo! Sports writer Adrian Wojnarowski, Deadspin reported Wednesday. Wojnarowski is currently in the midst of a four-year deal with Yahoo! and his reported exit from the company is said to be “complicated.” According to the report, a number of writers currently working for Wojnarowski’s Yahoo! website The Vertical are also expected to move to ESPN.
