Former ESPN SportsCenter anchor Josh Elliott has departed yet another network, and under the strangest circumstances yet. In other news, ESPN has picked up ABC News reporter Ryan Smith for OTL and E:60, and NASCAR Race Hub co-host Danielle Trotta is leaving Fox Sports 1.
Rough Times Continue For Fmr. ESPN Anchor Elliott
- Former ESPN SportsCenter anchor and Sports Illustrated writer Josh Elliott was fired by CBS News Monday, three days after making an apparently premature on-air announcement that he would be taking a broader role with the company. Elliott, lead anchor of the CBSN streaming network since last year, said during a Friday newscast that he was leaving the digital outlet. While that was true, and he was slated to begin a new role contributing field pieces across CBS News platforms, his bosses were not consulted on the announcement and had no intention of publicizing the move. Elliott has now departed CBS News, NBC Sports and ABC News in the past three years. (NYT 2.13)
ABC News Reporter Smith Joining OTL, E:60
- ABC News correspondent Ryan Smith has joined ESPN as a contributor to Outside the Lines and E:60, it was announced Monday. Smith, who has served as a fill-in host and legal analyst on OTL since 2013, will add feature and investigative reporting in his new position. He will continue working for ABC. (ESPN Media Zone 2.13)
NASCAR Race Hub Co-Host Trotta Leaving Fox Sports
- Fox Sports NASCAR host Danielle Trotta has departed the company, she announced Monday, ending a seven-year tenure that began when she joined the now-defunct Speed Channel in 2010. Trotta will be replaced by Shannon Spake on NASCAR Race Hub, Fox Sports 1’s most-watched daytime program. (Charlotte Observer 2.13)
