If so many baseball fans hate the Yankees and Red Sox, and if so many sports fans are sick of the East Coast sports media bias, then why do games between Boston and New York continue to do so well in the television ratings?
FOX pulled in its highest overnight of the baseball season, drawing a 3.7 rating for yet another meaningless early-season game between the leader of the AL East and one of the worst teams in that division. One could argue that the baseball ratings renaissance going on this season can be almost wholly attributed to the Yankees and Red Sox, whose games against each other rate nearly as highly as playoff games.
As if the 3.7 rating was not enough of an indication of the popularity of Boston and New York, the same two teams pulled in a 4.3 overnight cable rating on Sunday, “which would mark one of the top five-rated “Sunday Night Baseball” telecasts ever if it holds.”
Imagine if they somehow meet in the playoffs.
