For the third straight year, the U.S. Open Men’s Final was delayed to Monday due to rain — and for the third straight year, the numbers were extremely low.
Monday’s Nadal/Djokovic U.S. Open Men’s Final averaged a 1.8 final rating and 2.5 million viewers on CBS and a 1.2 and 1.85 million on ESPN2. The networks combined to average 2.17 million viewers for the match, which aired on CBS from 4-6 PM ET and ESPN2 from 7:50-10:15 PM.
Both networks’ coverage was down from last year’s Del Potro/Federer final (2.3, 3.391 mil), although CBS’ two-hour window topped Federer/Murray in 2008 (1.7, 2.317 mil).
The 1.8 for CBS coverage is the second-lowest for the Men’s Final on the network since at least 1995 (ratings prior to 1996 were unavailable), behind only the aforementioned 2008 final.
The last time the Men’s Final aired in its regular Sunday afternoon timeslot (Federer/Djokovic in 2007) the match drew a 3.7 and 5.363 million viewers.
