The NFL continues to put up massive numbers, with CBS being the latest beneficiary.
Sunday’s NFL national window (featuring Patriots/Jets) drew a 16.2 final rating and 27.010 million viewers on CBS — up 12% in ratings and 13% in viewership from last year (PIT/CHI*: 14.5, 23.879 mil) and up 6% and 7%, respectively, from 2008 (NE/NYJ*: 15.3, 25.159 mil).
This marks the highest rated, most-viewed regular season NFL telecast on CBS since last year’s Week 16 national window (16.3, 28.240 mil) and the most-viewed September NFL telecast on the network since Nielsen began keeping records in ’87.
The telecast ranks as the third-highest rated and third-most viewed of the young NFL season, behind the Week 1 national window on FOX (16.5, 28.023 mil) and the Vikings/Saints Kickoff Game on NBC (16.5, 27.485 mil).
Among adults 18-49, the telecast earned a 10.5 rating — again topped by only the Week 1 national window (10.8) and Vikings/Saints (10.7).
Just two weeks into the season, four NFL telecasts have drawn over 25 million viewers. Last year, nine telecasts all season drew at least 25 million; two years ago, only three telecasts hit that mark.
