For the second straight game, the Rangers/Rays series put up some of the lowest MLB postseason ratings since the current television contract went into effect in 2007.
TBS drew a 1.8 U.S. rating and 2.421 million viewers for Thursday’s Rangers/Rays Game 2, down 18% in ratings and viewership from last year (COL/PHI G2: 2.2, 2.955 mil) and down 10% and 7%, respectively, from 2008 (CHW/TB G1: 2.0, 2.610 mil).
The Rangers’ win drew better numbers than Wednesday’s Game 1 (1.6, 2.244 mil), but still ranks as the third-lowest rated MLB playoff game ever on TBS.
The Rangers/Rays series accounts for two of the three lowest rated playoff games on TBS. Game 4 of the 2008 Phillies/Brewers NLDS ranks as the network’s lowest rated game (1.5).
Game 2 drew a 9.3 rating in Tampa-St. Petersburg, down 3% from Game 1 (9.6). In Dallas-Ft. Worth, the game drew a 6.5, up 10% from Game 1 (5.9).
Through two days, TBS is averaging a 2.9 U.S. rating and 4.4 million viewers for the 2010 MLB Postseason, down 7% and 2%, respectively, from the first two days last year (3.1, 4.525 mil).
