He is not Tiger Woods, or that other Jordan, but Jordan Spieth may have what it takes to keep PGA ratings afloat.
Final round coverage of the PGA Tour Hartford Open earned a 2.7 overnight rating on CBS Sunday afternoon, up 145% from last year, when the tournament took place in August opposite the Olympics (1.1) and up 17% from 2015 (2.3).
The 2.7 overnight is tied with 2003 as the highest for final round coverage of the tournament since 2002 (3.4). The previous high over that span was a 2.3 in 2015 and 2005.
The 2.7 is also the second-highest for any PGA Tour window this season, excluding majors, behind only the final round at Pebble Beach in February (2.9). Impressively, it outdrew the final round of The Players Championship — the ‘fifth major’ — in May (2.6).
Saturday’s third round coverage pulled a 1.5 overnight, up 114% from last year opposite the Olympics (0.7) and up a tick from 2015 (1.4). The 1.5 is tied as the highest for third round coverage of the tournament in at least a decade.
