Cal Ripken Jr. is out at Turner and a pair of former ESPN broadcasters have new gigs.
Ripken Out
Turner Sports has mutually parted ways with MLB analyst Cal Ripken Jr., ending his decade-long tenure with the company, the New York Daily News reported Sunday. Ripken Jr. had been part of the lead MLB on TBS broadcast team alongside Ron Darling and play-by-play voice Ernie Johnson, having previously served as a studio analyst. [NYDN 9.10]
Werder Gets Gig
Former ESPN NFL reporter Ed Werder has joined Westwood One as an NFL sideline reporter, he announced on his Twitter account last week. Werder was among the many broadcasters and reporters laid off by ESPN this year, but like many other now-former ESPN employees, is subject to the non-compete clause in his contract. As a result, ESPN had to agree to let Werder take the position, a five-game schedule that began with Chargers-Broncos Monday night. [Awful Announcing 9.6]
Kanell Also Gets Gig
Former ESPN college football analyst Danny Kanell, who has already joined Fox Sports and Sirius XM this summer, has joined CBS Sports Digital to cover multiple sports for CBSSports.com and the CBS Sports App. Kanell made his debut on Saturday. [CBS PR 9.7]
