World Series TV ratings have been strong relative to recent, lower rated years, but Tuesday’s Game 6 was huge by any standard.
Tuesday’s Astros-Dodgers World Series Game 6 delivered a 15.1 overnight rating on FOX, up 2% from Cubs-Indians last year (14.8) and up 70% from Giants-Royals in 2014 (8.9). There was no Game 6 in 2015.
The 15.1 is the highest for a Game 6 in the World Series since Yankees-Phillies in 2009 (15.5) and the second-highest for any non-clinching World Series game since Game 4 of that 2009 series (15.6). Only last year’s Game 5 (15.3) did better in the metered markets.
Game 6 was just the second of the series to top last year’s highly rated Cubs-Indians matchup. Game 4 also pulled a higher overnight, but finished with a decline in the final nationals.
For the year, Game 6 ranks among the top non-NFL sporting events — narrowly trailing the clinching Game 5 of the NBA Finals (16.0) and the Clemson-Alabama College Football National Championship (15.3), but coming in ahead of the North Carolina-Gonzaga NCAA Tournament title game (14.5).
With the Astros in position to clinch the series, Houston turned in a series-high 41.8 rating. Los Angeles scored a 30.9, down 6% from Game 5 (32.9).
