The resurgence of the Saints and Rams did nothing to help NFL ratings last weekend.
Sunday’s NFL national window, featuring Saints-Rams in 82% of markets, had an 11.6 rating and 19.9 million viewers on CBS — down 12% in ratings and 15% in viewership from last year (mostly Panthers-Raiders: 13.2, 23.5M) and down 25% in both measures from 2015 (Steelers-Seahawks: 15.4, 26.6M).
It was the lowest rated Week 12 national window since at least 1998 and the least-watched since at least 2004. The national window has now hit a multi-year low in nine of 12 weeks this season. This week’s telecast was the sixth of those to hit a decade-plus low in one or both measures.
The national window has now failed to crack 20 million viewers four times this season, exceeding the previous seven seasons combined (three). That does not count Week 17, when both FOX and CBS have doubleheaders.
Earlier in the day, regional action had a 6.5 (-14%) and 10.9 million (-15%). Excluding 9:30 AM windows from London, it watied the lowest NFL rating on broadcast TV this season. The same window had the same rating a week earlier.
