Two storied franchises gave NBC’s SNF ratings a boost on Sunday.
Packers-Steelers delivered an 11.0 rating and 19.0 million viewers on NBC’s Sunday Night Football, up 3% in ratings and viewership from Chiefs-Broncos last year (10.7, 18.4M) but down 25% in both measures from Patriots-Broncos in 2015 (14.6, 25.2M).
Pittsburgh’s win was the second straight Sunday night game to increase. Overall, SNF ratings have increased six times in 12 weeks this season, and viewership has increased five times.
The last time Packers-Steelers aired in a majority of TV markets — not counting their Super Bowl matchup — was in 2005. That year, their matchup had an 11.5 and 17.5 million as the featured game of a CBS national window.
Though up overall, ratings actually declined in all three major adult demographics — falling 3% in adults 18-49 (from 6.2 to 6.0) and 25-54 (from 7.3 to 7.1) and 6% in adults 18-34 (4.9 to 4.6).
Milwaukee led all markets Sunday night with a 44.3 rating, followed by Pittsburgh (40.8), Minneapolis-St. Paul (19.8), Norfolk, Va. (17.4) and Richmond, Va. (16.9).
As previously reported, NBC also drew 16.9 million viewers for Giants-Washington on Thanksgiving night. Details of that telecast are available here. The full list of 2017 NFL ratings is available here.
