According to People Magazine, 13-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams was recently hospitalized for a pulmonary embolism.
Described as a blood clot in the lungs, the pulmonary embolism was discovered when Williams returned to Los Angeles from New York last week. She had been in New York to treat the foot injury that kept her out of the 2010 U.S. Open and 2011 Australian Open.
Despite the health issue, Williams was able to attend an Academy Awards viewing party on Sunday night.
On Monday, she “underwent emergency treatment at Cedars [Sinai Medical Center] for a hematoma she suffered as a result of treatment,” Williams spokesman Nicole Chabot told People.
