Broadcaster Gus Johnson is officially out at CBS, where he spent well over a decade as an NFL and college football play-by-play voice.
CBS confirmed to multiple outlets Monday night that they were unable to reach an agreement with Johnson on a new contract.
Now a free agent, Johnson is expected to move to Fox Sports, with whom he has had “active discussions” (content.usatoday.com, 5/9). According to the New York Daily News, Johnson would serve as an NFL and college football voice for FOX, which recently added Pac-12 television rights.
Johnson joined CBS in 1995, serving primarily as a play-by-play voice for college football and NFL games. Notably, he worked the Final Four and Men’s Basketball National Championship Game in 2000, 2001 and 2002 on CBS’ HDTV feed, the only times he called those marquee games.
