TNT Gets Tiger-Phil Match
The rumored Tiger Woods–Phil Mickelson $10 million match will air on TNT, Golf Digest reported Monday. As previously noted, the match — which will be titled “The Match” — is expected to take place on the Friday or Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend. Per Golf Digest, Woods and Mickelson are considering a series of head-to-head matches pitting top ranked players, “perhaps occurring twice per year.” [Golf Digest 8.6]
NASCAR’s France Arrested
NASCAR CEO Brian France has taken an indefinite leave of absence after being arrested Sunday for DUI and criminal possession of a controlled substance. France is in his 15th year as chairman and CEO of NASCAR, which was founded by his grandfather. His arrest is a perhaps-unprecedented circumstance for the leader of a major pro sports league. Warner Replacing Esiason on Westwood One
NFL Network analyst Kurt Warner has been named the lead analyst for NFL games on Westwood One radio, filling the vacancy left by Boomer Esiason, The Athletic reported Monday. Warner, who previously served as Esiason’s understudy in that role, will work alongside the returning Kevin Harlan on Monday Night Football and the Super Bowl. [The Athletic 8.6]
Turner’s UEFA Matches to Air on TNT
TNT will televise 46 UEFA Champions League matches during the upcoming season, including the final next June 1, Turner Sports announced last week. All 340 UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League matches will be available on Turner’s new over-the-top streaming service Bleacher Report Live.
