ESPN NHL analyst Matthew Barnaby is accused of using racial slurs and making threats against an unidentified victim during a domestic dispute earlier this month.
According to court documents, Barnaby is accused of making between twenty and thirty phone calls to an unidentified victim last Friday, “threatening harm” and using racial slurs. According to the Buffalo News, the unidentified individual is a friend of his estranged wife.
Those alleged actions led to a misdemeanor charge of aggravated harassment in the second degree, one of five charges made against Barnaby in the wake of last week’s domestic incident.
Barnaby was also charged with harassment in the second degree for a tirade against another unidentified victim. While a police officer was listening, Barnaby allegedly told the victim, “I [redacted] hate you, I wish you would die, you’re a worthless [redacted]” (buffalonews.com, 5/19).
The Buffalo News identifies that alleged victim as Barnaby’s ex-wife.
Other charges against Barnaby include a felony charge of criminal mischief in the third degree for allegedly causing intentional damage to a garage door, door handle and door frame at an unidentified residence, a misdemeanor charge of criminal trespass for unlawfully entering said garage, and a misdemeanor charge of criminal contempt for entering the residence in violation of a previous court order.
The home in question reportedly belongs to Barnaby’s ex-wife.
