NLCS Game 7 ratings plunged in the metered markets, but still topped a night of major sporting events.
Saturday’s Dodgers-Brewers National League Championship Series Game 7 earned a 4.9 overnight rating on FS1, down 31% from Yankees-Astros in the same window last year (7.1). Compared to the last NLCS Game 7, Cardinals-Giants on FOX in 2012, overnights fell 17% from a 5.9.
The 4.9 overnight is the lowest ever for an LCS Game 7.
The Dodgers’ uneventful win aired opposite a pair of marquee sporting events — Purdue’s upset of Ohio State on ABC and LeBron James‘ first home game as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers.
Ohio State-Purdue earned a 4.2 overnight on ABC, even with both last year (Michigan-Penn State) and 2016 (Ohio State-Penn State). The 4.2 was the highest college football overnight of the weekend, finishing ahead of Michigan-Michigan State on FOX earlier in the day (3.7).
The late night Rockets-Lakers NBA regular season game had a 2.5 overnight on ESPN, marking the network’s highest NBA regular season overnight since the final night of the 2015-16 season, when Golden State won its 73rd game of the season.
Rockets-Lakers built on its college football lead-in (Mississippi State-LSU: 1.7) by 47%. The Lakers’ first two games this season have delivered the two highest overnights of the NBA’s opening week, with the team’s opener against Portland earning a 2.6 on TNT Thursday.
In Los Angeles, the Dodgers’ pennant-clincher cruised to victory over the Lakers’ home opener. The NLCS Game 7 had a 15.9 on FS1 and ESPN’s NBA telecast had a 3.9 (ESPN’s broadcast co-existed with local coverage on Spectrum SportsNet; ratings for the RSN telecast were not available.)
