The final round of the Phoenix Open tied a six-year ratings high.
Last Sunday’s final round of the PGA Tour Phoenix Open delivered a 2.5 rating and 4.075 million viewers on NBC, flat in ratings and down a fraction of a percent in viewership from last year (2.5, 4.080M), and up 32% and 30% respectively from 2017 (1.9, 3.13M). Coverage aired on CBS in those years.
Rickie Fowler‘s win tied the highest rating for the tournament since 2013, and delivered the second-largest audience.
It also tied as the highest rated sporting event of the weekend, excluding Super Bowl-related programming, matching the Lakers-Warriors NBA game on ABC the night before. The NBA game had a larger audience (4.085M).
Third round coverage last Saturday, which marked the final telecast for NBC golf analyst Johnny Miller, had a 1.7 and 2.60 million — down 19% in ratings and 21% in viewership from last year (2.1, 3.30M) but up 13% and 15% respectively from 2017 (1.5, 2.26M).
Despite the drop, it delivered the tournament’s second-largest third round audience in the past five years.
Lead-in coverage on Golf Channel had a 0.6 (-23%) and 905,000 (-25%) on Saturday and a 0.85 (-6%) and 1.29 million (-11%) on Sunday.
