With the Saints winning easily, even a historic night for Drew Brees could not keep Monday Night Football ratings from sinking.
The latest edition of ESPN’s Monday Night Football (Colts-Saints) averaged a 6.5 rating and 11.06 million viewers, down 18% in ratings and 15% in viewership from last year (Saints-Panthers: 7.9, 13.01M) but up 14% and 17% respectively from 2017 (Falcons-Buccaneers: 5.7, 9.41M).
The Saints’ blowout win, which peaked with 12.61 million viewers from 9-9:15 PM ET, was just the fifth of 16 MNF games to decline this season.
Including the Spanish-language audience on ESPN Deportes (77K), the game averaged 11.13 million.
Entering its season finale, MNF is now averaging 12.49 million viewers on ESPN (+6%) and 102,000 on ESPN Deportes (+20%).
ESPN’s telecast drew a 16.0 rating in New Orleans and a 9.8 in Indianapolis. Coverage was simulcast on local broadcast affiliates in both markets, averaging a 42.0 on New Orleans NBC affiliate WDSU and an 8.6 on Indianapolis ABC affiliate WRTV. Simulcast figures are not included in ESPN’s national results.
Kansas City was the top neutral market (9.8), followed by Seattle-Tacoma (9.4), San Diego (8.9) and Cleveland (8.8).
Colts-Saints scored a 3.4 rating in adults 18-49, down 15% from last year (4.0) but up 10% from 2017 (3.1). The 3.4 is the second-lowest for MNF this season. It also drew a 2.6 in adults 18-34 (-13%).
