Former ESPN NFL analyst Joe Theismann has not handled his removal from the Monday Night Football booth with much grace.
Theismann continued his criticisms of MNF, and notably of Tony Kornheiser, saying his replacement Ron Jaworski is “a terrific football guy” who “happens to work on Tony’s show.” Theismann then explained that MNF has “become a three-hour Tony Kornheiser show. When I was let go, they explained they wanted more of an issue show and less about football. They’ve accomplished that.”
This is just the latest in a string of criticisms Theismann has leveled at ESPN and Monday Night Football since his removal from the broadcast team earlier this year.
After initially saying he had a “great relationship” with Kornheiser, Theismann has gone on to specifically blast his former partner, calling him “extremely neurotic” and criticizing ESPN for attempting to turn Monday Night Football into an “extension of Pardon the Interruption“.
More generally, Theismann has blasted ESPN for focusing more on an “issue-oriented” broadcast. “They said they noticed that when they studied the tape, when it came back to me, I talked about football. I guess that was the problem, but you’ll have to ask them.”
