The ALCS put up decent numbers on Monday.
Game 3 of the Cleveland Indians/Boston Red Sox series averaged approximately 9.5 million viewers on Monday night, which would make the game the most viewed playoff game this year, ahead of Game 4 of Indians/Yankees. FOX averaged a 2.9/7 rating among adults 18-49, good for fourth place behind ABC, CBS and NBC.
There was no comparable game last year, as Game 5 of the NLCS between the Mets and Cardinals was rained-out. No fair comparison could be made to Game 3 of last year’s ALCS either, as that game aired at 4:00 PM on a weekday afternoon.
FOX finished a distant third in total viewers for the night behind CBS and ABC, but Game 3 could finish with a better rating than the Monday Night Football game on ESPN. As evidence of exactly where non-NFL sporting events fit in the general television landscape, the game fell behind several network entertainment programs — including ABC juggernaut Dancing with the Stars, which drew 19 million viewers, and even The Bachelor, which drew 9.3 million viewers.
