Ratings and viewership inched up for Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup race from Michigan.
ESPN earned a 3.2 U.S. rating and 5.028 million viewers for NASCAR’s Pure Michigan 400 Sunday afternoon, up a tick in ratings and 2% in viewership from last year (3.1, 4.917M), but down 9% and 11%, respectively, from 2009 (3.5, 5.622M).
Excluding rainouts, this marks the second-lowest rated (tie) edition of the race since at least 1998, and the second-least viewed since at least 2000.
Despite the generally low numbers, this is the second time in three races that ESPN has had an increase for NASCAR coverage.
Of the eighteen NASCAR races that can be compared to last year, nine have had increases in ratings, and eleven have had increases in viewership.
(3.2 rating based on 3.654 million HHs; HH viewership from Media Life Magazine, P2+ viewership from ESPN)
