- FOX: How about them Cowboys? Executives at FOX have been vocal in their displeasure over airing only eight of the sixteen Dallas Cowboys games this season, and there is an obvious reason why: along with the New England Patriots, Dallas is the largest draw in the NFL. For the season straight week, the Cowboys brought FOX a 17 overnight rating; this week, the 17.0 for Cowboys/Washington marks an 8% increase over the 15.8 rating for the comparable Colts/Cowboys game in ’06.
- CBS: The NFL and SEC held their own on CBS over the weekend. Regional NFL coverage in the 1:00 PM window averaged an 11.4 overnight on Sunday, up 2% from an 11.2 last year, when CBS aired a doubleheader. Meanwhile, the #1 ranked LSU Tigers once again gave the SEC on CBS a needed jolt in the ratings, as their victory over Ole Miss drew a 2.9 overnight — up 53% from a 1.9 for Auburn/Alabama last year.
- NBC: Flexible scheduling gave NBC a tiny jump in the ratings on Sunday night; the 10.8 overnight for the Patriots manhandling of the Bills was a 3% increase over the 10.5 rating for Chargers/Broncos last season. While the Patriots dominance drew decent numbers, Notre Dame’s futility did not attract many viewers. The 1.5 overnight for the Irish’ victory over Duke on Saturday was off 7% from a 1.6 overnight for Army/Notre Dame last season.
- ABC: Michigan/Ohio State was not nearly the draw it was a year ago, but the rivalry still pulled in large numbers. The 6.4 overnight for the Buckeyes’ win over the Wolverines is stellar, considering the Noon ET start time, and marks the highest overnight rating for a college football game this year. Still, the 4.8 average overnight for the full day of college football on ABC was down 52% from the 10.0 average overnight for the college football doubleheader a year ago.
Auto racing.
3.8: NASCAR on ABC, Ford 400 (3:30 PM Sunday)
3.1: NASCAR on ABC, Ford 400 Postrace (7:15 PM Sunday)
1.6: NASCAR Countdown on ABC (3 PM Sunday)
- NASCAR ended its season on a familiar down note. The Ford 400, the final race of the Nextel Cup season, drew a 3.8 rating on Sunday afternoon, down 12% from a 4.3 for the same race last year. This marks the eighth straight week NASCAR ratings have fallen when compared to last year.
Other.
1.2/2: LG World Championships of Freestyle Motocross on CBS (5 PM Sunday)
0.9/2: LPGA Tour on NBC, ADT Championships, Final round (3 PM Saturday)
0.9: MLS Cup on ABC, Dynamo/Revolution (12 PM Sunday)
- The LPGA ADT Championships lost a quarter of its audience from last year; the 0.9 overnight for the event is off 25% from the 1.2 rating it drew last year, when it aired on tape delay in a weaker timeslot.
- The MLS Cup saw a decent increase from last year; the 0.9 overnight for the championship game between New England and Houston is a 13% increase from the 0.8 rating the same game drew in ’06.
