The NBA will soon be without a voice at USA Today.
Over 40 staffers at the paper with the highest circulation in the U.S. are taking voluntary buyouts, and among them are NBA writers David DuPree, Roscoe Nance and Greg Boeck. Losing those three leaves USA Today with “no writers“, for its NBA coverage.
DuPree and Nance alone have a combined 44 years experience at USA Today between them. Nance told Journal-isms that he does not “really have any concrete plans” post-USA Today, while DuPree indicated that he may branch off from sports and move on to film. Of his former employer, DuPree told Journal-isms “[i]t has to be a blow … to lose an entire desk in the middle of the season … But one thing I’ve learned from sports is everyone’s replaceable.”
Also leaving USA Today are Lee Ivory, a deputy managing editor, and Chuck Johnson, who covers boxing.
