Ratings for the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard hit the lowest level in 9 years.

ESPN drew a 4.1 U.S. rating and 6.5 million viewers for the 2009 Allstate 400 at the Brickyard, down 5% in ratings and 3% in viewers from a 4.3 and 6.7 million for last year’s race. The 4.1 rating is the lowest for the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard since ABC drew a 3.7 in ’00. Additionally, the 4.1 is tied as the second-lowest rating in the 15-year history of the event.

Since ’02, when the race drew a 6.3 rating and 10.2 million viewers, ratings and viewership for the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard have declined 34% and 36%, respectively.

Despite the decline, the race ranks as the highest rated NASCAR telecast since the Aaron’s 499 in late April, and the highest rated, most-viewed NASCAR telecast of the season on cable.

The race also topped the Indianapolis 500 in ratings (4.1 to 4.0) and viewership (6.5 million to 6.3 million). This marks the first time since 2006 that the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard has outrated the Indy 500.

Excluding the rained out Coca-Cola 600 in May, 19 NASCAR races have averaged a 4.5 U.S. rating on FOX, TNT and ESPN, down 10% from a 5.0 last year.
