TV Ratings: Just 3.5 Million For NFL Honors; Also, PGA on CBS, Figure Skating


Recent sports TV ratings news, including low numbers for the inaugural NFL Honors, a huge drop for the PGA Tour Farmers Insurance Open, and declines for the U.S. Figure Skating Championships on NBC.

  • Not Much Juice For NFL Honors on NBC: The inaugural NFL Honors awards show drew a 2.2 final rating and 3.524 million viewers on NBC Saturday night, ranking behind the network’s telecast of ‘Harry’s Law’ earlier in the night (2.6, 4.050M). In the all-important adults 18-49 demographic, the show earned a 0.9 rating — tied for just sixth for the night among the Big Four broadcast networks, behind two episodes of ‘Cops’ on FOX (1.3 each), ’48 Hours Mystery’ on CBS (1.3), a rerun of ‘Criminal Minds’ on CBS (1.0) and the movie ‘Transformers’ on ABC (1.0).   • Final Round of Farmers Insurance Open Lowest Rated Since At Least ’96: Final round coverage of the PGA Tour Farmers Insurance Open earned a 1.8 final rating and 2.624 million viewers on CBS January 29, down 49% in ratings and 51% in viewership from last year (3.5, 5.307M), and down 18% and 16%, respectively, from 2010 (2.2, 3.118M). This marks the lowest rated final round of the event since at least 1996. Third round action on January 28 drew a 1.0 and 1.374 million viewers, down 50% in ratings and 55% in viewership from last year (2.0, 3.037M), and down 33% and 36%, respectively, from 2010 (1.5, 2.140M). Afternoon coverage earlier in the day earned a 1.2 and 1.774 million viewers, down 14% in ratings and 17% in viewership from last year (1.4, 2.126M), while coverage on January 29 scored a a 1.8 and 2.782 million viewers — down 5% and flat, respectively, from last year (1.9, 2.787M).
