Sports Media Watch FeaturesThe media frenzy over the Mark Fainaru-Wada-Lance Williams expose on Barry Bonds's steroid use, Game of Shadows, is inane and asinine. Likewise for ESPN's "special report" on Bonds just a week later, and for the full round of allegations levied in Game of Shadows, which hits shelves today. Frankly, the same can be said about the coverage of baseball's steroid controversy for the past few years.

Sports Media Watch featuresApparently the people at Sports Media Watch don’t like me very much.  My first assignment was a week without ESPN.  And now, I’ve been asked to watch women’s basketball.  On purpose.  And, gulp, WITH A GUY.  Do you know how hard it was to find a guy willing to give up a Sunday afternoon during championship week?  Impossible, trust me.  As it was, a pizza and a 6 pack later, I talked one of my buddies into a half.

DDIt’s that time of the year again. The 2005 National Football League season has come to an end with the Pittsburgh Steelers capturing the Super Bowl title, the Major League Baseball Spring Training season is just readying to begin, the National Basketball Association is in a holding pattern for most fans until its playoffs, the NASCAR season is just getting stared with the Daytona 500 and the National Hockey League is on hiatus due to the 2006 Winter Olympics. And with the NCAA’s March Madness still weeks away, what is a sports fan to do?

DDAh, ESPN: The sports fan’s mecca. A place where we can all gather together and worship at the feet of Stuart Scott. A place for information, for entertainment, and innumerable cable channels for your viewing pleasure. But, have I become too dependent on the World Wide Leader? Have we all? I took a challenge: one week sans ESPN. I set out to see if it was possible, my very survival at stake.
