- The NFL continues to dominate; Christmas Day saw a 12.5 overnight rating for the Eagles/Cowboys matchup, which isn’t phenomenal for an NFL game (compare it to the huge numbers FOX and CBS get for their 4:00 pm Sunday games), but is exceptional for Christmas Day.
- Speaking of the sports behemoth, the NFL has moved the Bears/Packers game to Sunday night on NBC. Considering that the Packers have little to no shot of making it to the playoffs (I’m just being realistic here), NBC could have only selected the game because it could be Brett Favre’s last. Considering that Sunday is New Year’s Eve, and the move was announced on Monday, some fans now find themselves in a bind.
- LaDainian Tomlinson won The Sporting News Sportsman of the Year, while Tiger Woods and Lorena Ochoa won the Associated Press male and female athlete of the year, respectively.
- The CFL has moved entirely to cable, in a move that could possibly be duplicated by the NHL or NBA. The Canadian sports league signed a 5 year deal with TSN, which will move the Grey Cup off of the CBC and onto the ESPN owned network.
