As forecast by The Big Lead, ESPN today announced that morning gab-fest Cold Pizza and its spinoff, 1st and 10, will move to the network’s Bristol, CT studios.
ESPN is obviously going to try and cast this in a positive light, although sources cited by The Big Lead indicate that this may be just one step into the direction of ultimate cancellation. At the very least, Cold Pizza is well on its way to at least just being a conventional sports studio show. The shelving of that whole “dorm room/apartment” set, while making things more professional, will also make it awkward for the show to maintain its ‘lighthearted’ tone.
From the very beginning, Cold Pizza was a bad idea. The name was a bad idea. The set was a bad idea. The hosts were bad ideas. To string this show along, a show that now only consists of Jay Crawford, Dana Jacobson and Skip ‘Slander’ Bayless, makes it seem as if ESPN is simply trying to save face. A move to Bristol won’t change the problem; Cold Pizza is simply an ill conceived show with mediocre talent and not much in the way of anything interesting to offer viewers.
