- The much talked about fight between Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather Jr. set all-time pay per view records last Saturday. The bout drew “2.15 million buys and $120M in revenue. The buys, split into 1.225 million from cable and 925,000 from satellite homes, surpassed the previous mark of 1.99 million for the ?99 Mike Tyson–Evander Holyfield II bout on Showtime PPV.“
- The NHL is following the lead of EJ, Kenny and Charles. The league today started a Myspace page, located at myspace.com/NHL. “Similar to the league?s online ventures on YouTube, Google Video, Joost, Voxant and other outlets, the MySpace content will include video clips from the ongoing playoffs and just-completed regular season.” According to the Sports Business Daily, the NBA is also “working with Myspace … [and] looks to have a similar area for videos and fan comments active within a matter of days.“
- Thanks, Yankees and Red Sox: Baseball ratings are up on FOX an ESPN, led by season high ratings of 3.5 on ESPN for Yankees/Red Sox on April 22, and 3.2 on FOX for Yankees/Red Sox on April 21. “Fox’s ‘Saturday Afternoon Game of the Week’ has been averaging 4 million viewers so far, its best start to a season ever. ESPN’s “Sunday Night Baseball” has been on a tear as well, up 56% to an average 3.5 million viewers compared with this part of the season last year.“
