Former ESPN radio host Dan Patrick‘s new show will launch on September 9, less than a month after his final show on ESPN Radio August 17.
The show will be distributed by The Content Factory across nine platforms, including “AM/FM radio, satellite and HD radio, online, TV, mobile phone, publishing, out-of-home video, retail and event marketing“, and has already been offered to some ESPN Radio stations.
According to a Chicago Tribune article cited by The Sports Business Daily, expectations are that Patrick will add “political or entertainment elements to his radio show, with recurring guests such as Keith Olbermann, Rick Reilly and Reggie Miller.? Considering that Patrick often ventured into pop culture already on his ESPN Radio show, one wonders if his new venture will be sports centric or will instead only touch on sports periodically. Jimmy de Castro, who helped create The Content Factory, expects that the show will be “more liberating, creatively speaking” as Patrick ?will be free from scores and the other elements that are part of the ESPN brand.”
If sports are not the central theme of the show, does Patrick have any pull? Most of his listeners have come to know him through sports; how many of them will listen to his new show if most of the talk surrounds how Patrick finds Felicity Huffman more attractive than Eva Longoria?
