Game 7 of the ALCS was a hit for FOX.
The deciding game of the Cleveland Indians/Boston Red Sox series drew a 11.7/18 rating and 19 million viewers on Sunday night, making the telecast the most watched television program of the evening. The 11.7 rating is an 8% increase over the 10.8 rating for Game 7 of the 2006 NLCS between the Cardinals and Mets, and a 1% increase over the game on the comparable night last year, Game 2 of the 2006 World Series.
Game 7 is the highest rated Major League Baseball game since Game 4 of the 2005 World Series, and the highest rated seventh game of any sport since Game 7 of the NBA Finals drew an 11.9 rating in 2005. The game finished as “the No. 3-rated program of the week in both adults 18-49 (5.5 rating/13 share) and total viewers (19.15 million).” On the strength of the ALCS, FOX won the week in total viewers and in the adults 18-49 and 25-54 demographics.
The game blew away the competing Sunday Night Football telecast on NBC; the 19 million viewers for Indians/Red Sox was 43% higher than the 13.3 million viewers for Steelers/Broncos.
The full seven-game series averaged a 7.4 rating and 11.6 million viewers, up 37% and 49% respectively over the 5.3 rating and 7.8 million viewers for the 2006 ALCS. As a disclaimer, last year’s ALCS was a four-game sweep that included afternoon games on Friday and Saturday. Compared to last year’s NLCS, which went seven games, the 7.4 average rating for Indians/Red Sox marks a 6% increase over the 7.0 rating for Cardinals/Mets.
