One of the most prominent voices in cable news is ready to assuage any worry that he will bring his political posturing to NBC’s pigskin pregame.
Divisive MSNBC host Keith Olbermann, generally considered to be the extreme-left alternative to the extreme-right voices on FOX News, says he will avoid talking politics during his role as a co-host of NBC’s Super Bowl XLIII pregame show.
At a gathering to celebrate both his and Cris Collinsworth‘s 50th birthdays, Olbermann said that he would “never mix” sports and politics, and that “I draw the line between my sports reporting and my political commentary.”
While Olbermann, now in his second season as a co-host on NBC’s NFL pregame, has a background in sports, he is far more well known as the host of Countdown with Keith Olbermann — a show that has been very unfriendly to politicians on the conservative side of the political spectrum. During his tenure as host of the program, Olbermann has earned the ire of those who lean to the right.
However, Olbermann seems confident that while “there are some people whose heads may explode at the mere sight of me on a sports show,” the Super Bowl may provide common ground. “Life is not entirely defined by politics and almost everyone will be celebrating the Super Bowl,” he says, “It’s one thing we agree on.”
