For the second straight year, ratings dropped for golf’s biggest event.
The final round of The Masters drew an 8.3 fast national rating on CBS Sunday, down 3% from an 8.6 last year, and the lowest rating for the final round of The Masters since 2004. The 8.3 rating is tied as the sixth-lowest for the final round of The Masters since ’82.
Ratings peaked at a 10.0/21 from 7-7:30 PM, when Angel Cabrera won on the second playoff hole.
Some of the decline in ratings can be attributed to the Easter Sunday holiday. CBS notes that the “HUT (Households Using Television) levels this Easter Sunday in the 56 metered markets were down 15% compared to last year (42.8% vs. 50.3%, respectively).”
The last time the final round of The Masters took place on Easter Sunday was 2007. Final round coverage that year drew a 9.1 rating, up 8% from the previous year. That was the only occurrence the past 27 years when ratings for final round coverage on Easter were up from the previous year.
