- NBC drew a 2.6/5 final rating for its prime time coverage of the World Figure Skating Championships on March 28, up a whopping 136% from a 1.1 for last year’s afternoon coverage on ABC. Coverage of the event outrated the third round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational earlier that day and an NBA game on ABC the following afternoon. Despite the rise in ratings, the event finished tied with a repeat of Castle on ABC as the lowest rated prime time program on the Big Four broadcast networks that night.
- On pace to make the playoffs for the first time in franchise history, the Columbus Blue Jackets are attracting near-record numbers. The Blue Jackets’ win over the Predators on Tuesday drew a 3.9 rating on FS Ohio last Tuesday, the second-highest rated Blue Jackets telecast ever on the network. The record is 4.5 for a January game against the Red Wings.
- The Blue Jackets are not the only hot attraction in the NHL, as the Blackhawks and Sharks both set ratings records recently. The Blackhawks’ win over the Devils on March 27 drew a 2.1 rating on CSN Chicago, the highest rating ever for a Blackhawks game on the network. Meanwhile, the Sharks’ win over the Flames on March 30 drew a 2.2 on CSN Bay Area, the network’s highest rated regular season Sharks’ telecast. Both the Blackhawks and Sharks have seen their ratings rise over 50% this season.
