- Baseball continues to be a major attraction in the nation’s #1 market. Through the All-Star break, Yankees telecasts averaged a 4.6 rating on YES Network, while Mets telecasts averaged a 3.2 on SNY. Both ratings are record highs for this point in the season; the 3.2 for the Mets is the team’s highest ever average on cable through the All-Star break, while the 4.6 for the Yankees is “a record high for a New York cable channel through the All-Star break.”
- Dallas residents largely tuned out of the 2009 MLB All-Star Game. The All-Star Game, which drew an 8.9 rating nationally, drew just a 5.5/10 in Dallas — placing the nation’s #5 market among the lowest rated major markets for the game. The only major markets to draw lower ratings for the game were “Oklahoma City (5.3/9), Knoxville (5.1/8), Portland (5.0/11) and Salt Lake City (3.8/8).”
- The presence of President Obama gave FOX a small boost in the ratings on Tuesday night. The pregame show before the MLB All-Star Game drew a 7.0/13 rating and 11.2 million viewers, up 3% and 9%, respectively, from a 6.8/13 and 10.4 million for last year’s pregame. The 7.0 is the highest for the MLB All-Star pregame since ’04, and the 11.2 million viewers is tied as the best since ’02.
