Compared to last year, the Little League World Series is doing well for the ESPN family of networks.
The opening weekend of the 2009 Little League World Series averaged a 0.7 U.S. rating and 1.1 million viewers on ESPN, up 40% in ratings and 60% in viewers from a 0.5 and 660,000 viewers last year.
The numbers were even higher on ESPN2, as four opening weekend telecasts averaged a 0.8 U.S. rating and 1.2 million viewers — up 100% in ratings and 137% in viewers from last year’s comparable 0.4 and 514,000 viewers.
ABC averaged a 1.1 overnight rating for its two games, up 83% from a 0.6 on the comparable weekend last year. In particular, Saturday’s Warner Robins/Staten Island game drew a 1.3 overnight, up 160%, and Sunday’s Russellville/San Antonio tilt drew a 0.9, up 29%.
ESPN and ESPN2 also saw increases during the regional finals, with ESPN seeing a 14% increase in viewers for its five games, and ESPN2 having a 53% increase for its three games.
