Golf has been on such a tear in the ratings lately that an 88% increase seems almost underwhelming.
Sunday’s final round of The Barclays, which saw Tiger Woods finish in a tie for second, drew a 3.2/8 final rating — up 88% from a 1.7/4 last year, and up 52% from a 2.1/5 in ’07. The 3.2 is tied as the highest rating for final round coverage of The Barclays since ’01 (3.3/9).
Ratings peaked at a 5.2/11 from 5:45-6 PM ET.
This is the fifth straight week that a PGA Tour event has had at least a 75% increase in ratings for the final round. The last five PGA events have averaged a 3.9 rating for final round coverage, up 105% from a 1.9 for the same five events last year.
For the season, CBS, NBC and ABC have averaged a 2.9 rating for final round coverage of PGA Tour events, up 21% from a 2.4 through the same point last year. This excludes coverage of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, the U.S. Open, and the RBC Canadian Open, all of which concluded on Mondays.
