The president of the NCAA lost his battle with cancer on Wednesday.
NCAA president Myles Brand died on Wednesday at age 67. Brand, who had been president of the NCAA since ’03, announced in January that he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Previously, Brand was the president of Indiana University.
Brand is the latest high-profile victim of pancreatic cancer. Pacers co-owner Mel Simon also died from pancreatic cancer on Wednesday. Additionally, NFLPA president Gene Upshaw and former Detroit Pistons coach Chuck Daly both died due to the disease over the past year. Outside sports, actor Patrick Swayze died from the disease on Tuesday.
There is no word on when the NCAA will begin looking for a successor to Brand.
