The U.S. Open has delivered record numbers to ESPN2.
Wednesday night’s primetime coverage of the U.S. Open, featuring Wozniacki/Oudin and Federer/Soderling, drew a 1.5 U.S. rating (1.8 million households) and 2.3 million viewers on ESPN2. Thursday’s coverage ranks as the most-watched tennis telecast ever on ESPN2 in households and total viewers.
Wednesday was the second straight night of record numbers. On Tuesday, primetime coverage of S. Williams/Panetta and Nadal/Monfils drew a 1.5 U.S. rating (1.7 million households) and 2.1 million viewers — at the time, setting a record as the most viewed tennis telecast ever on ESPN2 in households, and the second-most viewed telecast in total viewers.
Through Wednesday night, ESPN2 averaged a 0.7 U.S. rating for coverage of the 2009 U.S. Open, up 16% from a 0.6 through the same point last year on USA Network. In prime time, coverage of the Open has averaged a 1.0 U.S. rating, up 43% from last year’s 0.7.
