The good vibes for the WNBA lasted about two weeks.
Less than a year after the 4-time WNBA champion Houston Comets folded, the team with the second-most titles in WNBA history is relocating. The Associated Press reports that the Detroit Shock, who won the WNBA championship in ’03, ’06, and ’08, are moving to Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The Shock join the now-defunct Seattle Supersonics as championship basketball teams to move to Oklahoma in the past two years.
Since 2002, WNBA teams in Portland, Miami, Cleveland, Charlotte, Orlando, Utah, Houston and now Detroit have either folded or relocated.
The Indiana Fever were thought to be in danger prior to the start of the WNBA Playoffs, but their run to the Finals has bought them at least another season.
