- The NCAA is “gauging the feasibility” of moving the NCAA Tournament from broadcast to cable. While the NCAA Tournament is currently in the midst of an 11-year deal with CBS, the NCAA can opt out of that deal after the 2010 Final Four. The NCAA reportedly “believes a move to cable could increase its revenue, especially given last year?s deal ESPN signed with the BCS.” CBS is expected to “move aggressively to keep the tournament on its network.” (Sports Business Journal)
- ESPN, The Golf Channel and The Oprah Winfrey Show have each requested an on camera interview with embattled golfer Tiger Woods. HBO also made a request, but was denied. Woods has not made a public appearance since he was involved in a car accident in late November. (USA Today)
- Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia will begin streaming live 76ers games on CSNPhilly.com, reports Sports Business Journal. This is CSN’s “first in-market streaming initiative.” (Sports Business Journal)
